For experienced professionals, mentorship is often the next step in leadership development. Michael McGoldrick, a two-time Mentor with Building Builders, notes that guiding others provides value to him as well as his Mentees.
Michael has supported two distinct emerging builders on their journeys. His first connection was with a foreign-trained engineer and newcomer to Canada who needed support pivoting into the BC construction industry. His current Mentee is a Project Coordinator looking to develop the right skills to eventually become a Project Manager.
Both Mentees have engaged with the industry by attending program site tours at the Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue Centre and the PNE Amphitheatre. Michael supports their development through monthly check-in calls where they celebrate progress and tackle challenges together. He credits this process with helping him continue to grow as a leader.
“The opportunity to share lessons and experiences with my Mentees has been incredibly rewarding. Working with emerging builders has helped new workers find their path, while also helping me continue to grow as a leader.
Their excitement and enthusiasm for joining the BC construction industry has been truly uplifting. Our check in calls are a highlight of each month, a chance to celebrate progress, tackle challenges together, and support their development in meaningful ways.” — Michael McGoldrick, BCCA Building Builders Mentor
